1. How do I apply for a marriage license?

Marriage licenses can be obtained from the recorder's office. The application process can be time consuming. Please arrive at the Recorder's Office by 4 p.m. to assure adequate time.

If you would like to start the process, you may begin by completing an eMarriage Application online at home or use our computers here at the courthouse. We will print the application when you arrive to apply for the license. Both of the parties must appear in person to complete the application process. Please bring your valid Driver's License as identification.

The license is valid for a period of 6 months. You will be provided one certified copy of the certificate at no charge. Furthermore, the application fee is $115, however you may be able to qualify for a reduced marriage fee of $40.

2. How do I qualify for a reduced marriage fee?

You can qualify for a reduced marriage fee if at the time you apply you provide an Educator's Statement. See the necessary qualifications for a Reduced Marriage Fee.

3. Who must attend and perform the wedding ceremony?

• Ministers of any religious denomination may also perform the marriage ceremony if they have filed a copy of their ministerial credentials with a Local Registrar in the state.
• The law requires that your marriage ceremony be witnessed by two people who are sixteen (16) years old or older.
• The person performing the marriage ceremony will prepare one certificate of marriage. The certificate will be filed with the Local Registrar of the county where the marriage license was issued. The Local Registrar records the marriage and mails a certified copy of the certificate to you at the address you entered on your application form.
• You may choose to have a marriage ceremony performed by anyone authorized by law to provide the service. In Minnesota, this includes judges and court administrators.

4. How do I file my credentials of license or Ordination?

For an ordained person (both Minnesota residents and non-residents) to be authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota, the person must:

• Be at least 21 years old.
• File their credentials of license or ordination with a Minnesota county.
• Once this is complete, marriages may be performed anywhere in the State of Minnesota.

5. How can I locate the county where my marriage certificate is filed?

If you are not sure where your marriage certificate is filed, you can search the state marriage licenses index by visiting the Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) website. You can search by name, county and year. Copies of marriage certificates can only be purchased in the county where the licenses was filed. If your licenses is not in Isanti County we will not be able to issue you a certified copy.

6. How do I obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate?

You may request marriage records by mail or in person.
