Isanti County has 24 public drainage systems. These can be broken down into 19 County Ditches and 5 Judicial Ditches (ditches that cross county lines), totaling 142 miles of open ditch. The public drainage systems in Isanti County were constructed in the early 1900s in order to provide drainage for agricultural lands and to drain incompatible wetlands, these are not necessarily ditches along county roads. The Isanti County Board of Commissioners is the Drainage Authority for all Isanti County Ditches. The administration of Drainage in Minnesota is enforced by MN State Statute 103E, also known as Minnesota’s Drainage Law. Under the guidance of Minnesota Drainage Law and the Isanti County Drainage Authority, Isanti County staff is moving forward to better manage and maintain all Isanti County public drainage systems.
