Functions of the Auditor-Treasurer

Property Tax

Property tax responsibilities include maintaining property tax rolls through recorded transfers, splits and combines of properties; the calculation and collection of property taxes, special assessments, and the appropriation of tax receipts to local units of government; the tax forfeiture process; and collection of mortgage registration tax and state deed tax.

The Auditor-Treasurer’s Office does not assess values or assign classifications on property. For assistance with either of these, please check with the Assessor’s Office. Also, although taxes on property transfers are collected by the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office, the actual recording of documents is done by the Recorder’s Office.

Finance

Financial responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, investment of County funds, and preparation of the County payroll and County financial statements.

Elections

This office serves as the chief election official for the County, conducting all Federal, County and State elections including the responsibilities of voter registration, ballot layout and absentee voting.

Driver’s Licenses, Permits, & Identification Cards

As an issuing agent for the State of Minnesota, our office processes applications for Driver’s Licenses, Instruction Permits, and Identification Cards (IDs). We are unable to administer Driver’s License testing or collect reinstatement fees at our office.

Passports

This office serves as a U.S. Passport acceptance facility for the U.S. Department of State. You may have your photo taken in our office while applying for your U.S. Passport.

Other Services

This office also issues township beer and liquor licenses, auctioneer licenses, precious metals licenses, transient merchant licenses, and fireworks permits.
